GROWING
A HEALTHY FUTURE
Join us for an evening celebrating
10 Years of Teaching Gardens in Los
Angeles. Help us plant the seeds of
change in our local communities.
Ten years ago, the American Heart Association
joined forces with child-nutrition activist and
philanthropist Kelly Chapman Meyer to create an
interactive garden program on elementary school
campuses. The Teaching Gardens program serves
as a real-life laboratory where kids learn to plant
seeds, nurture growing plants, harvest produce and
ultimately learn the value of good eating habits.
About 1 in 3 kids and teens in the U.S. is overweight
or obese, nearly triple the rate in 1963. Early
childhood is key to developing lifelong healthy
eating habits. The Teaching Gardens program is
one of many local AHA initiatives dedicated to
helping prevent cardiovascular disease and stroke.
